Filing a discrimination complaint
Miami-Dade County is committed to providing equal access to its services regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, family status or marital status in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
The Transportation and Public Works Office of Civil Rights and Labor Relations is responsible for the following:
- Monitoring complaints investigated by the field to ensure their resolution.
- Ensuring that complaints are investigated and a finding issued within 60 days of receipt.
If you believe you have been discriminated against by a public transit provider, you may file an administrative complaint by phone or mail. To mail a complaint, print and fill out the Title VI Complaint Form. Complaints should be filed within 180 days of the alleged violation.
You may file formal complaints with other State or Federal agencies, or seek private counsel for complaints alleging discrimination. This administrative process does not provide for remedies that include punitive damages or compensatory pay for the complainant.
Every effort will be made to obtain early resolution of complaints at the lowest possible level. The option of informal mediation meetings between the affected parties and the investigator may be utilized for resolution, at any stage of the process.
As required by Title VI policies, Miami-Dade County has posted the following Notice to the Public informing them of their rights under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 throughout various County facilities and vehicles such as Miami-Dade Transit buses and at each Metrorail station.
