Deputy Joseph Vallejos of the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office was nearly killed during a routine motorcycle escort when a sedan struck him, leaving him critically injured. After enduring multiple surgeries and months of grueling rehab, Vallejos defied the odds and returned to duty, inspiring many with his strength, determination, and unwavering dedication to service.
Jean Bellerive, a 79-year-old cleaner for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) through Goodwill of South Florida, retired after 13 years of service, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and camaraderie. His retirement party, attended by MDSO staff and Goodwill leadership, highlighted the deep bonds between the Goodwill cleaning crew and the law enforcement community.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office held its first-ever civilian promotions ceremony, recognizing the vital contributions of civilian employees across various divisions. Deputy Director Christopher J. Carothers and Chief Stephanie L. Stoiloff emphasized the significance of the event, marking a new era of appreciation for civilian staff within the department
House Bill 657, passed in July 2023, authorizes camera enforcement of speed limits in school zones within Miami-Dade County for vehicles exceeding the limit by more than 10 miles per hour during school hours. Violators will receive a minimum $100 fine, with options to pay, transfer liability, or contest the citation.
