Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a celebration of courage and supportive communities – that is the hallmark of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer experience.

Since 1993, the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) campaign has united communities, companies, and individuals with a collective goal to end breast cancer as we know it.

Over the past two decades, the 3-to-5-mile noncompetitive walks have collectively grown into the nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement – providing a supportive community for courageous breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer thrivers, caregivers and families alike.

Every Making Strides event is a powerful and inspiring opportunity to unite as a community to honor breast cancer survivors, raise awareness about what we can do to stay well from breast cancer, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society fight the disease with breast cancer research, information and services, and access to mammograms for women who need them.

This year, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer celebrates its 30th anniversary and will take place in more than 150 communities nationwide. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer celebrates survivors and thrivers, funds lifesaving breast cancer research and is committed to advancing health equity through programs and services, believing that all people have a fair and just opportunity to live a longer, healthier life, free from breast cancer – regardless of how much money they make, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, gender identity, their disability status, or where they live.

About Us

Helping People Get Well and Stay Well
We're the nation's most trusted source of cancer information. The public trusts us as much as their family doctors to provide accurate, reliable information. And doctors rely on us for cancer screening guidelines. Every 30 seconds someone calls the American Cancer Society, and breast cancer is the number one reason people call us. In fact, one in every two women newly diagnosed with breast cancer reaches out to us for help and support. We're a phone call away 24 hours a day. And more than 23 million people annually visit cancer.org, which provides some of the most comprehensive and helpful information about cancer and how to triumph over the disease. No matter where someone is in their cancer journey, we are there to help. We're there whether they need a sympathetic ear, cancer information, a ride to treatment, help accessing other resources in their community or a variety of other services.

Finding Cures
We've been involved in nearly every major breakthrough in the fight against cancer. We fund more research than any other nonprofit, next to the federal government. And we have a track record of funding the best science. Forty-six of our funded researchers went on to win the Nobel Prize. Lifesaving treatments such as Herceptin and Tamoxifen, cancer causing genes and less radical surgery were all made possible in part to our research funding. We invest more in breast cancer research than any other cancer type, and nearly all of the research we fund has potential against breast cancer.

Fighting Back
We are the leading voice for cancer patients in the state capitol and on Capitol Hill. Because of our leadership and advocacy, Florida developed two cancer research programs over the past decade and since just 2007 has funded about $7 million in breast cancer research. Our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events bring our community together and give people a voice to fight back against the disease. The events raise both awareness and vital funding to continue making progress to defeat the disease.
