This vibrant district includes the cities of Miami and Miami Beach, including the urban neighborhoods of Brickell and Downtown; the working, industrial Miami River; tree-lined Coral Way neighborhoods like The Roads, Silver Bluff and Shenandoah; the South and Mid parts of Miami Beach; and Little Havana and West Flagler, the colorful center of Hispanic culture.

The Board of County Commissioners approves Commissioner Eileen Higgins' legislation urging the State of Florida to provide funding for the Bay of Pigs Brigade 2506 Museum

Located in the heart of District 5’s Little Havana, the Museum serves not only as a respiratory of artifacts relating to the efforts of the 1,400 brave individuals to liberate the Cuban people from communist tyranny, but as a symbol of pursuing and defending the fundamental values of democracy, justice, individual liberties and respect for human rights.

Commissioner Eileen Higgins creates the Relocation and Expansion Incentive Program to attract new local, high wage jobs

The REIP program will provide a monetary incentive to businesses who relocate to or expand in Miami-Dade County and create at least 50 local jobs with average salaries over $100,000.
