Aetna next steps for 2026

Miami-Dade County will transition from AvMed to Aetna as the county’s group medical plan administrator effective Jan. 1, 2026. Employees are encouraged to take several steps before the end of the year to prepare for the change and avoid any disruption in medical care.

Aetna ID cards are expected to arrive by mail between the third and fourth week of December. Each household will receive two family-style ID cards, with all covered family members listed on each card. In the event of a mail delay or if additional copies are needed, employees will be able to access their ID cards beginning Jan. 1, 2026, through the Aetna mobile app or the Aetna member portal, where cards can be viewed, downloaded or printed after registration.

Starting Jan. 1, 2026, employees must present their new Aetna ID card at all health care provider offices and pharmacies to ensure claims are processed correctly.

Employees with dependents between the ages of 26 and 30 must submit the required Aetna dependent affidavit. A copy of the affidavit is attached for convenience.

Employees are also encouraged to verify that their current doctors and specialists participate in the Aetna network by using the provider search tools available at mdc.aetna.com.

To help prevent delays during the transition, employees should refill ongoing prescriptions before Dec. 31, 2025. Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, the new Aetna ID card must be presented at the pharmacy for prescription coverage.

Employees who have been advised to undergo high-tech imaging services, such as MRI, CT or PET scans, are strongly encouraged to schedule and complete these appointments before Dec. 31, 2025, when possible.
